Top Ten Tuesday (December 13th): Top Ten Books I’m Looking Forward To For The First Half Of 2017.

It’s been a while since I last did a Top Ten Tuesday so I thought it was about time I got back into the habit. I’m not going to put these in any kind of order because I don’t have time for that. They’ll be in the order I find them on Goodreads.

1. King’s Cage by Victoria Aveyard.
2. Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth.
3. Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh.
4. Caraval by Stephanie Garber.
5. Our Dark Duet by Victoria Schwab.
6. Now I Rise by Kiersten White.
7. Frostblood by Elly Blake.
8. Avenged by Amy Tintera.
9. Perfect by Cecelia Ahern.
10. Traitor to the Throne by Alwyn Hamilton.
Okay, so I didn’t check to see if these are all released in the first half of 2017 but I really don’t care. There are a few more from the Goodreads list that didn’t make it here because it’s a top ten and my list would be a lot longer.

What are some books you’re looking forward to in 2017?

Top Ten Tuesday (October 18th): Ten Characters I’d Name A Child or Animal After.

I’m not planning on having kids but if I was I would definitely name them after fictional characters. I also have a name for cats too. But I didn’t get to name my cat.

I don’t really have characters I’d name a child or animal after because either I love the character but wouldn’t name my kid after them, like Hermione. I love Hermione but her name is way too old fashioned for me. But then I can love the name but not really like the character. Or I just like the name. But there are a handful of characters I’d actually name something after.

1. Darcy.
I’ve always loved Darcy from Pride and Prejudice. I think I’d name a girl Darcy.

2. Willow.
I think I got this name from Handle with Care by Jodi Picoult. Willow was a child with Osteogenesis imperfecta, which is brittle bone disease. Willow has stayed with my since I first read Handle with Care and I love the name.

3. Luna.
I love Luna from the Harry Potter series. I don’t know if I’d name a kid or a cat Luna because I think it’s a good name for both but I’d probably call a girl Luna.

4. Snow
No, this is now for a child. I’ve loved Snow White from Once Upon a Time (the TV show) from the start and I’d love to name a kid after her but I don’t think Snow would go down too well. There’s also her Storybrooke name, Mary Margaret, but that’s too old fashioned for me. I don’t like names that are too out there but I also don’t like old names.

5. Spencer.
All my names so far are for girls but this one can obviously be for either a girl or a boy. I love last names as first names. I think I would call a boy Spencer though. I got this name for Dr. Spencer Reid in Criminal Minds.

6. Clarke.
Yes, another girl. I’m going to have a lot of girls apparently. I think I got this from Smallville, Clark Kent, and The 100. That’s when I realised I loved Clarke for a girl.

7. Mason.
I don’t know where I got this one from. It could be here because I just like the name because no fictional Masons are coming to mind right now. This is for a boy.

8. Cadence.
I got the name Cadence from We Were Liars. I didn’t like the book or the character but I liked the name.

9. Wylie.
I don’t know why I like Wylie but I really do. The main character in The Outliers is called Wylie and I did like her. I’m not sure if I’d be naming a kid after her though because I just like the name.

10. Freya.
I’m pretty sure I got Freya from The Originals but I could be wrong. I know I heard it the other day in something I was watching but I can’t remember what.

This list was harder than I thought it would be. The problem for me is I love characters that have names I would never name a kid and can’t call an animal. Like Hermione, Astrid, Daenerys, Tryion, Merida.. The list goes on.

What are some names you’ve gotten from fictional caracters you’d name a kid or animal after? Or, if you’re like me, you just like the name.

Top Ten Tuesday (September 27th): Books On My Spring TBR List.

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday is going to be pretty easy. I’ve changed it from Fall to Spring because I live in New Zealand and we’re now in Spring 🙂

Let’s get into my TBR!!

1. Replica by Lauren Oliver. 5
I’ve seen this all over Bookstagram and I thought the idea behind this was interesting. There’s always two sides to every story. I’m still not sure how I want to read this. I think that if I read Gemma’s perspective first and then went and read Lyra’s I’d already have formed an opinion of her from Gemma’s story. And I don’t want to do that. So I might have to read one chapter of Gemma’s story, flip the book and read one of Lyra’s. I’m sure it will annoy me but I think that’s the way I’ll end up reading it.

If anyone has read Replica please let me know how you read it.

2. A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir.
I really want to read this soon but I think I may have to re-read An Ember in the Ashes first.. Which I really don’t want to do. Not that I didn’t like it, I loved it, I just don’t really have the time to re-read it. I managed to figure out Glass Sword without re-reading Red Queen and I really needed to so I might just pick it up and see how I go. I remember most things, I think, it’s just tiny details I’ve forgotten.

3. Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas.
I still haven’t read Queen of Shadows. But I have finished my re-read of the first three books, which I also didn’t have time for but somehow fit them in. I wanted to jump straight into Queen of Shadows when I finished Heir of Fire but I had to read some review books first. I’m hoping to get to it soon.

4. Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas.
I can’t wait to continue the Throne of Glass series. I hope to read both Queen of Shadows and Empire of Storms next month. I love these covers!

5. Paper and Fire by Rachel Caine.
I loved Ink and Bone when I read it last year and have wanted to read the sequel as soon as I finished it. I don’t know when I’ll read it but it’ll be on my October TBR. And I love this cover!!

6. Unrivaled by Alyson Noel.
I received a copy of Unrivaled from HarperCollins New Zealand a couple of months ago. I wasn’t expecting it but I thought I sounded like something I’d enjoy. I still haven’t read it yet though.

7. United as One by Pittacus Lore.
The only photo I have of this is with Black by Fleur Ferris (which I also need to read). I am excited to finally see how the Lorian Legacies will end. I’ve really enjoyed this series.

8. Stars Above by Marissa Meyer.
This is the last book that I have to read in The Lunar Chronicles. I finally finished Winter at the start of this month. I know this is novellas and I have read two of them when they were e-novellas. I read Glitches and something else but I can’t remember which one.

9. Swarm by Scott Westerfeld, Margo Lanagan & Deborah Biancotti.
Swarm is the sequel to Zeroes, which I read last year. It wasn’t my favourite book of 2015 but I did want to see how the next book in the trilogy went.

10. Two by Two by Nicholas Sparks.
I got this in the mail yesterday. I don’t normally read romance books but there’s just something about Nicholas Sparks’ books that I love.

What books are on your Spring/Fall TBR?

Top Ten Tuesday (August 13th): Top Ten Favorite TV Shows of all Time.

I missed last weeks Top Ten Tuesday so I’m playing catch up today. I’ll be going today’s topic next week because I don’t listen to audiobooks and there’s no way I can do top ten songs because that would take longer than the TV show one will.

1. One Tree Hill.
I have loved this show for years. I have every season on DVD and have lost count of how many times I’ve watched it. I think the show got a lot better after Lucas and Peyton left and Clay and Quinn came into it. My favourite characters are Brooke and Nathan and my favourite ship is Naley although I do love Brulian and Clinn too.

2. Once Upon a Time.
I love fairy tale retellings so I was hooked on this show from the very first episode. Although I don’t like Rumpelstiltskin as the Beast I have liked the other stories. I have a few favourite characters in this show – Snow, Emma, Hook and Regina. My favourite ship was Snowing until CaptainSwan happened.

3. Game of Thrones.
What’s not to love about this show? I’ve stopped having favourite characters by the Red Wedding because they just kept dying so now I’m stuck with the three I have left – Jon, Dany and Tyrion. I don’t have any ships in this show. I was going to wait until I’d read The Winds of Winter before I watched season 6 but I have given up on that book. I’m just going to watch the show and if the book comes out before I die than great.

4. The Walking Dead.
I didn’t think I’d like this when I watched the pilot episode but I loved it. I think I watched three seasons within a couple of weeks. I remember I wanted something to watch and went to IMDb to see the top rated TV shows. This was one of the ones I picked and had a little marathon. My favourite characters are Maggie and Daryl. I don’t really ship anyone in this show but I do like Maggie and Glen together.

5. Supernatural.
I’m actually a season behind at the moment but I still love the show and the characters. I will catch up one day but I’m not really in any hurry right now. I don’t have any ships in this show but I love Sam, Dean, Cas and Crowley. Some other characters that I liked are dead so I’m not going to list them.

6. Pretty Little Liars.
I can’t remember why I started watching this but I am kind of addicted to it and I can’t wait to see how they end it next year. I love Hanna and Aria and my favourite ships are Haleb and Ezria. Fingers crossed they’re both end game because I did not like where Aria and Ezra left off in the mid-season finale.

7. Teen Wolf.
This is the second show that I watched when I looked on IMDb for new shows. I can’t remember if I watched this or TWD first though. I’ll admit the pilot didn’t exactly have me hooked like other shows have but I loved Stiles from the very first episode and I watched more for him. Then I was hooked. I love Stiles, Lydia and Derek and Stydia better be end game!

8. Grey’s Anatomy.
I think this is the only medical drama I’ve watched from the start. I picked up ER a few years before it ended but I’ve been watching Grey’s since it started. I know this is an old photo but it has my favourite ship in it (Slexie – Mark and Lexie) and they died… And then Derek too. I miss Mark!

9. Prison Break.
I love this show. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve seen this and I cannot wait for the new season next year. I think it’s out next year. Although I’m very confused how Michael is alive and T-Bag is out of Fox River… Again. My favourite characters were Michael and Sucre.

10. Arrow/The Flash/Legends of Tomorrow.
So I’m cheating but I can’t have one without the other and I am so happy that Supergirl will be joining The CW soon! I loved the episode with Barry in Supergirl.

These aren’t all the TV shows I watch but I did manage to narrow them down to 10.

What are some of your favourite TV shows?

Top Ten Tuesday (August 2nd): Ten Books You’d Buy Right This Second If Someone Handed You A Fully Loaded Gift Card.

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and Bookish. You can check out the themes (if that’s what they’re called…) here. This week’s theme is going to be really easy. I’ll just go to my Book Depository wishlist and done. These aren’t going to be in order though because I cannot be bothered with that.

1. The Hammer of Thor by Rick Riordan.

2. Heartless by Marissa Meyer.

3. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Illustrated Edition) by J.K. Rowling & Jim Kay.

4. Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll & Anna Bond.

5. Shiny Broken Pieces by Sona Charaipotra & Dhonielle Clayton.

6. Frost like Night by Sara Raasch.

7. Replica by Lauren Oliver.

8. Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare.

9. The Rose and the Dagger by Renee Ahdieh.

10. A Tyranny of Petticoats by Jessica Spotswood.

What are some of the books you’d buy if you had a fully loaded gift card?

Top Ten Tuesday (July 26th): Top Ten Things Books Have Made Me Want To Do or Learn About After Reading Them.

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and Bookish. You can check out the themes (if that’s what they’re called…) here. I think I might struggle with this week’s theme because I can only think of two things so far.

1. Mythology.
Thanks to Rick Riordan I’ve wanted to learn more about the Greek gods. I haven’t read The Sword of Summer yet but I’ll probably want to read more about the Norse gods after that too. But that won’t just be because of that one book. I have a book about Loki (that I haven’t read) thanks to the Marvel movies. I love the Thor movies.

2. Classics.
There are a lot of books that have characters that love the classics. I have read a few classics but not as many as I’d like. My favourite, and one I’ve read more than once, is Pride and Prejudice. I have some classics on my shelves that I got with the intention of reading them but I just haven’t gotten around to them yet. One day I’ll read them.

3. Travel.
So many books have made me want to travel to the places their set in. I’m not going to name them all and the places but off the top of my head there’s France, Italy, Ireland, Scotland and England (although I have always wanted to go back there).

4. Watch the movie/TV show.
There have been a lot of books I’ve read that have been turned into movies and TV shows. I haven’t seen them all yet but I recently saw Me Before You (LOVED IT) and Allegiant (it was crazy). I was thinking of reviewing them on here because I’m running out of books to review. If you want to see what I thought of both movies let me know.

5. Fairy Tales.
This might come under classics but to be honest I don’t care. I’ve never read the original fairy tales that the Disney movies and the re-tellings I’ve read are based off. I do want to but the library I go to doesn’t have the Grimm fairy tales. I might just buy a copy of them one day. I have some of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales so I’ll start there. It has the Snow Queen which Frozen is based on and another story that Spinning Starlight by R.C. Lewis did a re-telling of.

I think I’m just going to do five this week. I’ve been really unmotivated with my blog for the last few days. I thought this might help me get back into it but it’s really not and I don’t want to drag it out.

What are some of the things that books have made you want to do?

– Aimee.

Top Ten Tuesday (July 19th): Ten Books Set Outside The US.

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and Bookish. You can check out the themes (if that’s what they’re called…) here. This week’s theme is books set outside the US. So I read a lot of fantasy but I’m assuming they don’t count. Now I actually have to think.

1. Me Before You by Jojo Moyes.
This is set in a small village in England but Will and Louisa do travel a bit to other places. It’s mostly set in England though. I think most people know what Me Before You is about now.

2. Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling.
If you haven’t read this series yet it’s set in England too. Mostly at Hogwarts but still. I don’t think I have to say what this series is about. I can’t wait to read The Cursed Child!!!

3. The Infernal Devices Trilogy by Cassandra Clare.
More books set in England. I think I see a theme… But this is set in the 1800’s I think. I can’t really remember what they’re about though.

4. Tomorrow When the War Began Series & The Ellie Chronicles by John Marsden.
This series is set in Australia and follows a few (six I think?) teenagers as their country has been invaded by an unknown country. It’s never mentioned who comes into Australia and starts taking over and killing people but these teens decide to fight back. I read this series a few years ago and really enjoyed it.

5. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.
The Book Thief is set in Nazi Germany. I will admit that I saw the movie first, which I’ve only done a handful of times, but this book and the movie are amazing. I loved them both.

6. Slated Trilogy by Teri Terry.
Another series set in England lol. The main character, Kyla, has had her memory and her personality wiped clean, she’s been Slated. Kyla was told she was a terrorist and the government is giving her this second chance, but only if she follows their rules. Things from her past are coming back to her and nothing is as it seems. I liked these books, they were really fast reads for me.

7. A Night Divided by Jennifer A Nielson.
This is set in East Berlin, Germany, after the Berlin Wall goes up and follows Gerta as she realises her family is now separated and what she’ll do to be free.

8. The Yearbook Committee by Sarah Ayoub.
The Yearbook Committee is set in Sydney, Australia and follows six teens in their last year of high school. I wasn’t sure if I’d like this because I’d heard it was like The Breakfast Club, which I didn’t like, but I really enjoyed it. It was a bit cheesy in places but I still liked it.

9. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins.
I think this is mostly set in France. Although Anna does go home to America (I think) for a holiday.. It’s been so long since I read this. But Anna is in France most of the time so it still counts.

10. The Martian by Andy Weir.
Okay so I’m cheating. Yes, NASA is in America and sometimes there’s a POV from someone at NASA but Mark is on Mars for most of this book and the majority of it is in his perspective so I think this counts as “outside the US.”

This was harder than I thought it would be. Especially as I tried not to have books set in the same country but apparently I read a lot of books set in England… I was born there so it makes sense.

What books have you read that aren’t set in the US?
