I started A Stranger in the House a couple of days ago but I was in a little slump and didn’t want to read the other day so yeah. It had nothing to do with the book though. I just get into these weird moods where I just don’t want to read and it sucks. But I seem to be over it now. Fingers crossed anyway.

So this book follows Karen, her husband and neighbour/friend. Karen wakes up in hospital with no memory of what happened or how she got there. The police think she was up to something but she’s not sure what to believe. It’s been really good so far. I’m hoping to finish it today.

I was sent a copy of The Cause of Death at the start of August from HarperCollins New Zealand. It’s been so long since I read a true crime book. I don’t normally read books straight away but this one just seemed to keep calling out to me. It’s set around where I live too so that was a plus.

Anyway, this book has a few cases that Dr. Temple-Camp was a pathologist for, like devil worshippers, drug mules and spontaneous combustion. Oh, and a high-profile case for the area – the Mark Lundy case. That’s been talked about for years and some people still think he’s innocent.

I really enjoyed this book, even though it was about death and murder. I couldn’t put it down. DGv0q-JU0AEVX0E

I also read I Have No Secrets. This book follows Jemma who has cerebral palsy. She relies on her family and carer for everything as she can’t talk or move. Someone in her life tells her this horrible secret and she can’t do anything about it – probably why they told her – but that may be about to change…

I really enjoyed this. I’ll hopefully be posting a review of this soon but I’d definitely recommend picking up a copy.

I’m going to be reading Tell It to the Moon next. I’ve been talking about a giveaway that I’ll be hosting when I post my review so I thought it was about time I actually read the book.

This is the sequel to The Moonlight Dreamers which I read last month and really enjoyed. I haven’t posted my review for that yet though. I’m still really behind with my reviews.

So that’s my week in book. What have you read recently?

I haven’t taken a photo of my current read yet because the weather is crap and so is my lighting…

Anyway, I started I Have No Secrets this morning. I’m not that far in yet but I like what I’ve read so far.

This book follows Jemma who has cerebral palsy. She can’t move or talk so she relies on her parents and carer for everything. But Jemma is smart and loves to learn. She also knows a lot of secrets – and one of them is so terrible she doesn’t know how to deal with it. But what can she do about it?

I really like Jemma and I am looking forward to finding out more about her and her family. DGajxgdU0AAN5B0

I finished reading Darien: Empire of Salt yesterday and I really enjoyed it. It did take me a while to get into but I think that was because I wasn’t in the mood to read not because of the story.

This is the first book in a YA fantasy series. It follows a few different characters and I was confused what was going on at the start but it did all come together in the end. I’ll be reviewing this soon so if you’re interested in reading that keep an eye out.

I also read The Student by Iain Ryan. This is a very shot book but it felt like there was a DGWQ9JZUQAA9v89lot going on. Murder, drugs, gang members and this one guy is in the middle of it all. Not for anything he’s done but because of the company he keeps and the fact he deals drugs.

I don’t really know what to think of this book. I don’t like drugs at all so I didn’t like the MC for dealing them or his friends for dealing them either. I guess I’ll have to get my thoughts together when I write my review… Or before then actually… Anyway hopefully I’ll get this reviewed soon too.

The Student and Darien: Empire of Salt were also books I read for ARC August. Oh and so is I Have No Secrets. DGB1t_4UwAMwaVm

I finished The Crown’s Game too and I really enjoyed it. It’s not what I was expecting but in a really good way. To be honest I don’t actually know what I was expecting but that wasn’t it.

I can’t wait to read the sequel, The Crown’s Fate, even though I’m like 100% sure how it’ll end for two of the characters. I’m not really into it for the romance or whatever but I do want to see how the story will end. I have no idea when I’ll get to it though.

A Stranger is the House was sent to me from Penguin Random House New Zealand to review. It was a complete surprise but it sounds like something I’ll enjoy reading so I’m looking forward to picking it up.

All I know about this is that a woman is in her kitchen making dinner and then she’s waking up in the hospital with no memory of how she got there or what happened. Her husband doesn’t know what to think but her best friend seems to think she was up to no good.

I can’t wait to find out what’s going on in this book!

DFdGElAXgAIw6N7I started Countless a couple of days ago and I’ve really enjoyed it. This wasn’t on my TBR for July but I didn’t really feel like reading the books I had left so I picked this up.

So the main character, Hedda, has an eating disorder that she calls Nia and finds out she’s pregnant. She plans her meals out for the pregnancy, she wants to put Nia on hold for a few months, have the baby and pick up where she left off…

I wasn’t sure if I’d like this but so far I’ve really enjoyed it. I think I’ll finish it today at some point. DFIjpdmUMAAlNXE

I recently read The Moonlight Dreamers. I’ve had a copy of this for a year and only now got around to reading this because the sequel was coming out.

This follows four girls as they set up a club, The Moonlight Dreamers, and go after their dreams. It’s diverse and full of friendship. I wasn’t sure I’d like it but I really did.

I’ll be holding a giveaway for a copy of both The Moonlight Dreamers and the sequel, Tell It to the Moon when I’ve read it. So if you live in New Zealand or Australia keep an eye out 🙂 DE-MiiVU0AA49f5

I also read Juniper Lemon’s Happiness Index and I really enjoyed this. I think I mentioned what this was about in my last WWW Wednesday post so I don’t feel like repeating myself.

Anyway, I will be reviewing this soon. I didn’t post any reviews last week because I was having some health issues and decided to take a little break from my blog. I’m still behind on writing my reviews but I’m hoping to catch up over the weekend. DFJ6SYdUMAApaXr

I went to the library last week and picked up these three books. I don’t know if I’ll be able to read them all as well as my review books but I am going to read The Leaving next. I wanted to read this when it first came out but never got around to getting a copy.

Currently Reading – 10I didn’t read much of this yesterday but I did like what I read. I just don’t think I was in the mood for reading.

Anyway, this follows Juniper as she tries to adjust to life without her sister. She’s been using her Happiness Index, a card system she uses to rate the day, to help. Then one of her cards goes missing, with a secret she doesn’t want anyone finding out.

She also finds a letter her sister, Camilla, wrote on the day of the accident. She never got to give it to the mysterious ‘You’ but Juniper is determined to find out who ‘You’ is and give them the letter.

I like what I’ve read so far. Hopefully I’ll be able to read more today.

I finished Sea yesterday. I liked it. I don’t really know what age group this is for though…

Anyway, Sea follows Mouse. Her father is missing, her brother is in danger and a mysterious and creepy cold is stealing across the world… Mouse is determined to save her brother and find her father.

This is the first book in The Huntress Trilogy. I think the next book is called Sky. I’m interested to see what’s next for Mouse in the next book. It also had some illustrations. 12

I finished When Dimple met Rishi and it was okay. It’s not the worst book I’ve ever read but I don’t understand all the hype. I found the ending very predictable.

I didn’t want to read it because it was so hyped up. I wanted to read it because it was diverse and own voices. And aside from fantasy books I don’t think I’ve read a contemporary with an arranged marriage.

I’ll be doing a review on this soon. I really wanted to like this so much more.

I think I’ll be picking up The Moonlight Dreamers next. I’ve had a copy for so long and never got around to reading it. With the sequel coming out soon I really need to pick it up.

12I started When Dimple met Rishi yesterday and so far it’s okay.. This is not the kind of book I normally read, all the relationship stuff is not my thing and I can already tell how this will end despite what Dimple said from the beginning of the book.

I wanted to read this because I’ve never read a book with Indian characters and the culture being a main part of the story and I am enjoying that part. I just don’t think this is my sort of book. But I’m still going to finish it.

DEQBQX-VYAAjLQPI took a break over the weekend from review books, which I haven’t done in a while, and re-read two books I’ve been meaning to pick up again for months. I did push them back because the last book in the trilogy was pushed back until March next year (boo!) but I just couldn’t wait any longer. I blame Amie’s story in the LoveOzYA Anthology book. It was set in space and I was just like, no. I need Illuminae and Gemina now.

I can read both Illuminae and Gemina in one day. Each. Not both in one day. Which is why I just read them over the weekend. They are just so addictive and I never want to put them down when I’m reading them. DEK7JnfUMAA1lU6

If you haven’t read these books then I cannot recommend them more. When I first read Illuminae I didn’t know if I’d like it at all. I don’t think I’d read a sci-fi book before this but it was just so, so good!!

I cannot wait for Obsidio to come out next year. Even though I don’t want this trilogy to end I still want to know how it will end and what’s next for Kady, Ezra, Hanna, Nik, Ella and even AIDEN. I also want to know who’s behind the security videos because they’re funny. Anyway, if you haven’t picked up Illuminae or Gemina then you really should!DEBAkx7UwAAfS33

I also read Begin, End, Begin – A LoveOzYA Anthology. I always find these kinds of books hard to review (I think I said this in my last WWW Wednesday post?) because I never like all the stories in the book.

I’m just going to review this as best I can. I will not be reviewing every story though because that will take forever and I just can’t be bothered to be honest. I might mention the ones I really liked though. If I can remember what ones I liked….

I think it’s about time I read this. I can’t even remember when I requested it because the book was sent to the wrong address and my old neighbour gave it to me. He said he’d had it a couple of weeks so I think this is a bit overdue..

All I remember about this is pirates and someone going missing. So I guess I’ll find out more when I pick it up.

I started Defy the Stars by Claudia Gray yesterday. I think this is the first book in a new trilogy/series. But I’m not really sure.

Anyway, this follows Noemi and Abel, who are from enemy planets, as they try to find a way to save Noemi’s planet, Genesis, from Earth. Or something like that. But Abel is a mech, the best mech ever made.

I think I’m 100 pages in and it’s okay. It’s not really holding my attention like her other trilogy did but I am liking it. I’m hoping it’ll pick up soon…

I read Ida a couple of days ago. I wasn’t really sure what to expect with this but I did end up liking it.

This follows Ida as she gets lost in another dimension and has to find her way back home.

Ida (the book) is full of diversity which I really liked but I wasn’t really into the story I guess. I don’t know. I’ll hopefully figure it out by the time I review it. Which will be soon I hope. I think I gave this three stars on Goodreads. I just wish some things in the book were explained more….. But that’s all I’m going to say here.

I read Pieces of You by Eileen Merriman over the weekend. It’s a YA novel set in New DCZjHKyUQAAjwEcZealand so that’s awesome. I hardly ever read books set here.

I actually posted my review of Pieces of You yesterday so I really don’t feel like repeating myself in this post. If you want to read my review then click the link here.

I will say that it had some heavy topics in the book, like sexual assault and cutting, but I thought they were both handled well. But if you can’t read those topics then stay away.

Anyway, I think this is a contemporary? I’m not really sure.

16I think it’s about time I finally picked up Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh. I loved her other books, The Wrath and the Dawn and The Rose and the Dagger. The world in those books was so addictive and magical. When I heard Ahdieh was writing another book I knew I had to read it. I didn’t even care what it was about.

But, it does sound good and has another strong female lead. I think. I haven’t read it yet. I really hope I can finish Defy the Stars soon and start this.

And, look at that cover! It’s gorgeous!!

So that’s my WWW Wednesday for another week. What have you been reading lately?

DCAdcxrUwAA6CCDI’m not reading anything at the moment. I’ve been sick since the end of last week and I am just so tired and my eyes hurt so I’m not going to pick anything up today. I need a break for now. I know being sick seems like the best time to do nothing and read but not this time.

So I’m just going to leave a shelfie here because I don’t have a book to post. I bought a third bookcase last week and it was put up over the weekend. This isn’t the best photo because not every shelf fits in an instagram photo but oh well. You get the idea. But I am so happy that I have room for more books!!!

I finished The Names They Gave Us yesterday and I enjoyed this more than I thought I would.

This book follows Lucy as she comes to terms with her mother’s cancer coming back, being a camp counselor at a “hippie camp” across the lake from her parents’ camp, where she planned to spend the summer. At Daybreak, Lucy meets Jones, a charming and mysterious boy.

So I thought this would be the usual girl meets boy, boy helps girl or changes her life. And yes, Jones did open Lucy’s eyes but there was so much more to the story than the connection between Lucy and Jones. I’ll be talking 2about it more in my review.

I also finished The Cows, which was so good! It’s not YA but I really enjoyed this.

The Cows follows three women, all strangers, who are come into each others lives in the most random and kind of horrible ways. But for some it changes their lives for the better. I don’t want to say too much about this because I will be reviewing it soon but I really, really enjoyed this book. It was a little weird in parts but you’ll have to read it to find out why…

I’ve decided I’ll be reading Ida next. I can’t really remember what this is about but I think it has an LGBT+ character. Or more than one? I’m not sure. I guess I’ll find out when I feel like reading again. Hopefully it’ll be soon because my TBR is crazy long.

So that’s my WWW Wednesday for this week. Fingers crossed I feel better by next week. I’m off to watch some Teen Mom now.

Let me know what you’ve been reading lately in the comments.
