Ever since Mouse’s mother died, she’s looked out for her little brother, Sparrow. She’s also been dreaming of when she’ll be captain of The Huntress.

But now her father is missing, Sparrow’s in danger and a deadly cold is creeping across the world…

I received a copy of Sea from Hardie Grant Egmont Australia to review. This is the first book in The Huntress trilogy.ย DEpiDAsV0AI_pxh

It took me a while to get used to the way Mouse and the other characters talked in this book. Some of the things they said were a little weird at first but once I got used to it I didn’t really notice it.

I think this book may have been a little bit too young for me. I mean, I’ve read middle grade books before but I just didn’t click with this the way I have other middle grade books. I mean, I liked the book but I did have some issues with Mouse and Sparrow. Mouse was very stubborn and seemed to think a lot of herself while Sparrow was too whiney for me. Especially because Mouse and their grandmother treated him like a baby a lot and I just can’t stand whining children.

I did find the story interesting though, with this cold or ice or whatever it was that was taking over the world. I think if I hadn’t found Mouse and Sparrow so annoying I would have liked this book more. I did like the magic in the story and it kind of reminded me a little of Northern Lights so I think fans of Philip Pullman may enjoy this.

I am interested in finding out what will happen to Mouse and the rest in the next book. I think it’s called Sky.

*Thank you Hardie Grant Egmont for sending me a copy to review*

July Wrap Up.

I’m going to be doing things a little differently with my wrap up this month. I normally add my TBR for the next month after I’ve given a list of what I read but as it’s still July I haven’t gotten much of a TBR yet, except for my ARC August TBR. So I’ll just mention that at the end for anyone who hasn’t read my ARC August TBR post.

I read 10 books in July, two of them were re-reads. I had a bit of a reading slump and just couldn’t get out of it. Anyway, onto the ratings.

The Glittering Courtย by Richelle Mead –ย โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…/5
Begin, End, Begin – A #LoveOzYA Anthologyย by Danielle Binks – โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…/5
Illuminaeย by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff (re-read) –ย โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…/5
Geminaย by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff (re-read) –ย โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…/5
When Dimple met Rishiย by Sandhya Menon –ย โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…/5
The Huntress: Seaย by Sarah Driver –ย โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…/5
Juniper Lemon’s Happiness Indexย by Julie Israel –ย โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…/5
The Moonlight Dreamersย by Siobhan Curham –ย โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…/5
Countlessย by Karen Gregory –ย โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…/5
The Leavingย by Tara Altebrando –ย โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…/5

Obviously I love Illuminae and Gemina and they were still good the second time. I also really enjoyed Juniper Lemon’s Happiness Index, The Moonlight Dreamers and Countless. The rest were just okay. I loved some of the stories in the LoveOzYA Anthology but most of them were just okay so I couldn’t give that more than three stars.

So, now for my ARC August TBR. I have made a post about this so if you’ve already read that then you can skip this part.

These are the five books I plan on reading for ARC August. Well they were when I made the TBR post. But I found another ARC that I should have already read by now that I’m going to read as well. That’s The Student by Iain Ryan. It’s set in Australia.

If you want to read the full ARC August TBR post then click the link ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ll be posting my full August TBR soon. When I’ve figured out what else I want to read.

What books did you read in July?

WWW Wednesday [July 19th 2017] โ€“

This meme is hosted by Sam over atย Taking on a World of Words.ย All you have to do isย answer the following three questions in a post and then put a link to that post in the Comments over atย Taking on a World of Words.

The questions are:
1. What are you currently reading?
2. What did you recently finish reading?
3. What do you think youโ€™ll read next?

Currently Reading โ€“ย 10I didn’t read much of this yesterday but I did like what I read. I just don’t think I was in the mood for reading.

Anyway, this follows Juniper as she tries to adjust to life without her sister. She’s been using her Happiness Index, a card system she uses to rate the day, to help. Then one of her cards goes missing, with a secret she doesn’t want anyone finding out.

She also finds a letter her sister, Camilla, wrote on the day of the accident. She never got to give it to the mysterious ‘You’ but Juniper is determined to find out who ‘You’ is and give them the letter.

I like what I’ve read so far. Hopefully I’ll be able to read more today.

Recently Finished โ€“ย 5
I finished Sea yesterday. I liked it. I don’t really know what age group this is for though…

Anyway, Sea follows Mouse. Her father is missing, her brother is in danger and a mysterious and creepy cold is stealing across the world… Mouse is determined to save her brother and find her father.

This is the first book in The Huntress Trilogy. I think the next book is called Sky. I’m interested to see what’s next for Mouse in the next book. It also had some illustrations.ย 12

I finished When Dimple met Rishi and it was okay. It’s not the worst book I’ve ever read but I don’t understand all the hype. I found the ending very predictable.

I didn’t want to read it because it was so hyped up. I wanted to read it because it was diverse and own voices. And aside from fantasy books I don’t think I’ve read a contemporary with an arranged marriage.

I’ll be doing a review on this soon. I really wanted to like this so much more.

Reading Nextย โ€“
I think I’ll be picking up The Moonlight Dreamers next. I’ve had a copy for so long and never got around to reading it. With the sequel coming out soon I really need to pick it up.

What have you read in the last week?
