Top Ten Tuesday (March 8th): Ten Characters Everyone Loves But I Just Don’t Get.

Okay I can see this week’s Top Ten Tuesday generating a bit of hate but these are my opinions.

Severus Snape from the Harry Potter Series.
I know a lot of people love Snape but I just never did. Or even like him. Okay, so he loved Lily and tried to save her (and only her) when he found out that Voldemort was after her child but Dumbledore called him on his selfishness and tried to save all three Potters. Anyway, the way he treated Harry through his school years was horrible. Yes, I get he had to keep his cover but still. He thought Harry was James 2.0 just because he looked like him, or was his son. But he was Lily’s son too. Snape should have been able to see the good in Harry and not just his father. But no. So no, I’ve never liked Snape and I never will. I don’t think him loving Lily makes him a good person and he may have realised (too late) that the Death Eaters were evil but that was only because Voldemort went after Lily, not before.

Simon Lewis from The Mortal Instruments Series.
Simon is another character loved by fans of TMI but I just never liked him. The things that annoyed me about Simon at the start of the series was how possessive he was of Clary. It really got on my nerves. Then he and Clary kissed once and out of no where they’re in a relationship? How does that happen? Why force yourself on someone who clearly isn’t into you the way you’re into them? And then when Simon finally clued into the way Clary was feeling and got over her it was just way too late for me to like him.

Dimitri Belikov from The Vampire Academy Series.
I don’t know what it is about Dimitri that I didn’t like but from the first book in the series I just didn’t get it. I never saw the appeal of Dimitri Belikov that Rose and the fans of the books did. I preferred Adrian when he came into the books.

Peeta Mellark from The Hunger Games Trilogy.
I feel like I’m repeating myself a lot here but Peeta is definitely another character I didn’t click with and it was from the very first book. I did like Gale and Finnick better than Peeta. I never wanted Finnick with Katniss though. The end of Mockingjay really annoyed me (SPOILERS if you haven’t read the books – I haven’t seen the final movie so I don’t know if they ended the same) how Peeta “talked” Katniss into having kids when she clearly didn’t want them. That was the nail in Peeta’s coffin for me. You don’t talk anyone into having kids if they don’t want them. And Katniss just called them “the boy” and “the girl” which for me showed me her feelings for them.

Those are the big ones for me. I can’t think of another six that won’t just sound small and stupid so I’m stopping with the big ones. If I think of more I might add them later.
