I started Silver Stars yesterday. This is the sequel to Front Lines and takes place in an alternate universe where women are allowed to fight in WW2.

I’m not that far into Silver Stars, almost halfway, so I can’t really say much about it but I am enjoying it. I also don’t want to give too much away for the people who haven’t read Front Lines yet.

These books follow three young women in the army, Rio, Frangie and Rainy. I really like all of them and am looking forward to seeing what’s next for them. C_G4QWaV0AAadNE

I read Resurrection Bay on the weekend. It’s set in Australia, Melbourne I think., and follows Caleb as he finds his friend dead and goes on a journey to find out what happened to him.

I really liked this book. I saw that it was the first in a series. I’m not sure if it’s going to be a duology/trilogy or longer but it’s the first of something. I’ll have to keep my eye out for the next book because I really liked Caleb and his friends.

I found this really addictive and the twist at the end was really good. I’ll be reviewing this soon. 11

I read Finding Nevo last week and I loved it! I think this is a book everyone should read. It’s full of important topics and has changed the way I see a few things. I’m not saying I had a problem with anyone that’s transgender but, without giving anything away, it changed the way I thought about gender and the way people but men and women in certain boxes. But I’ll talk more about that and the book in my review. Which I will be posting soon hopefully.

If you haven’t read a copy of Finding Nevo then I recommend finding a copy.

I’m going to be reading The Dark Prophecy when I finish Silver Stars.

I really enjoyed The Hidden Oracle. Especially because we were back at Camp Half-Blood and Percy and Nico were in it.

Again, this is a sequel so I don’t want to give anything away for the people who haven’t read The Hidden Oracle yet. But if you loved Riordan’s other books and haven’t read these then you’re missing out.

What have you been reading recently?

I’ve been reading The End of Oz for the last three days and I am determined to finish it today. It’s not a very big book but I keep getting distracted by social media and TV shows…

Ugh, I literally just noticed that the books aren’t even in order in the photo. That’s going to annoy me.

Anyway, I’ve liked the series so far. I haven’t read the novellas yet though. I’ll get to them soon. I think they’ve been a little predictable at times and cheesy but that’s okay. I still liked the story. I don’t want to say too much because this is the fourth book in the series and I don’t want to spoil it for people who haven’t read these books yet. C-c7Y-IU0AE1nNc

I have finally re-read Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I think I said this in my last WWW Wednesday post but I’ve wanted to re-read the Harry Potter series since I saw Fantastic Beasts and Where to find Them.

I don’t know when I’ll pick up Goblet of Fire but I’m hoping in the next couple of month. My TBR is too big at the moment.

Prisoner of Azkaban is my favourite book in the series. Closely followed by Deathly Hallows. Obviously I won’t be reviewing this because I’m so biased and have read it so many times. 6

I also read But Then I Came Back in the last week. It wasn’t really what I was expecting at all but I still liked it.

I’ll be reviewing But Then I Came Back sometime this month. I’m not exactly sure when but I’m hoping it’ll be up this month. I’m still really behind on my review.

This is the first book I’ve read by Estelle Laure and I’m thinking of reading her other book. I don’t know when but if I find a copy I’ll check it out. 11

I’m going to be reading Finding Nevo next. This follows Nevo as he transitions and focuses not only on what Nevo went through but also family, friends, bullying, weight issues and well as other topics.

I posted a Q&A yesterday with Nevo if you want to read it. You can find it here.

I’m really looking forward to reading this.

What have you read lately?

I picked But Then I Came Back as my next read. I haven’t started yet but I will at some point today.

From what I read on the back of the book this is about a girl, I’m not sure what her name is, who wakes up from a coma and her life is different. I don’t know how different but I guess I’ll find out.

Then there was something about her meeting a guy. I hope this isn’t about a guy fixing whatever’s changed with her…. I hate those stories. But I’ll find out soon I guess.

I finished Into the Water yesterday and it was sooo good!!! If you loved Girl on the Train then I’m sure you’ll love this.

Into the Water reminded me a lot of Broadchurch, where everyone is a suspect. Except in Broadchurch I’ve never suspected the police of committing a crime, but in Into the Water even the local police were suspects for me. There were two characters I didn’t think killed anyone and that was because they were out-of-town. But that’s all I’m going to say because I’ll be posting my review of this soon. Probably around the release day in New Zealand. C9u-sTvUMAAQLQp

I read Front Lines recently. This is the first book in the Soldier Girl series and I actually enjoyed it. I mean, there were parts that annoyed me because of the time it was set in and how some people back then thought but it had to be included in the book because it was set in WWII.

But this was an alternate world where women were allowed to fight on the front lines of the war against Hitler and his allies. It was an interesting idea and I’m looking forward to seeing where the story goes next.

I don’t have a recent photo of my next read so I had to go and find this. I’ll be re-reading Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I put it on my April TBR and I haven’t got to it yet. I don’t think I’ll actually finish it in April though.

I’ve wanted to re-read the Harry Potter series since I saw Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them last year so I’m excited to finally start.

I read the illustrated editions of Philosopher’s Stone and Chamber of Secrets so I’m continuing the series with these editions. I love the new covers!

I started reading Front Lines this morning. This is the first book in the Soldier Girl series. Front Lines is set in an alternate world where women were enlisted to fight WW2.

There are four-ish main characters in this book. Four young women in the army. They are suffering the prejudices, not only with their sex but also race and religion, as they become soldiers.

I’m really enjoying this so far. It’s an interesting idea and I can’t wait to see where their story is going. Obviously to war but I meant individually. 5

I finished The Bone Season yesterday and I loved it! This edition included the prequel, The Pale Dreamer, but I haven’t read that yet. I want to read it before I review The Bone Season but I’m not sure if I’ll remember to.

I’m sure most of you know what The Bone Season is about so I’m not going to get into it here. I’m kind of late to the part with this series.

I want to review this soon but I’m so far behind with my reviews at the moment.

A Tragic Kind of Wonderful didn’t take me long it read. I was hooked from the start and 9really wanted to know what was going on.

This book follows a family not only dealing with the grief of losing a son and brother but also mental illness and the different ways it affects them all.

I though this would be another book where a girl meets a boy and he saves her. Which I have read a lot of but this isn’t like that. Yes, she meets a boy and falls for him, but there’s so much else going on in her life. And I’m just going to stop there because I still have to review this and I don’t want to give it all away here.

I received a copy of But Then I Came Back to review from Hachette New Zealand.

I don’t really remember what this is about other than a girl in a coma, waking up and what she does from there…

I’m sure it sounds better than that but that’s literally all I can remember.

I don’t know when I’ll be picking this up because I don’t know how much reading I’ll be doing tomorrow but hopefully it’ll be sometime this week.

I started Black yesterday. I completely forgot I had this. It was in the one box I hadn’t unpacked so I found it last week. Anyway, I thought it was about time I read it.

This book follows Ebony Marshall, known as Black Marshall in her town. And not just because of her name… Some people in her town think she’s cursed. Three of her best friends have died in tragic accidents and now Black chooses to be alone, it’s easier that way. When her date to the formal ends up in the ICU things in town start to stir. Old secrets come out and terrifying dangers come after Black. Now she has to decide if she wants to run for her life or stay and fight.

I’ll probably be finished this today. I really want to know what going on. It’s so twisted and weird but in a good way. C8H_vdLVoAg_9R5

I read Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them yesterday. This is a new edition, with a foreword from Newt, six new beasts and beautiful illustrations.

I loved this edition, even more than the original. I think this is a must have for any Harry Potter fan. There are new editions of The Tales of Beedle the Bard and Quidditch Through the Ages too but this is definitely my favourite. I’ll be reviewing this soon. 3

I read this over the weekend and it was so disturbing but so good too. I couldn’t put it down. I don’t want to give too much away, I’ll be doing a review soon, but wow, this had a disturbing twist to the story.

I’ll give a short synopsis and then move onto the next book. Everyone wants to be a Roanoke girl. But they’re hiding a dark secret. Lane escaped eleven years ago but now she’s back. Her cousin is missing and she’s come back to help find her. But all the Roanoke girls either run away… or die. Is Lane strong enough to escape a second time? 10

I don’t even know what to say about Allegedly without giving anything away. This will be a hard one to review. Allegedly was another book I couldn’t put down, it was so freaking good.

This book follows Mary, who was convicted of killing a three month old baby when she was nine. She’s now out of baby jail and in a group home. Mary is also pregnant and the state wants to take her baby. It’s now time to set the record straight about what really happened that night. It’s the only way she’ll be able to keep her baby from being taken away.

Shadows on the Moon is a Cinderella retelling set in fairy tale Japan. I love fairy tale retellings, even though I’ve never read the original stories. Hopefully I will one day.

I really liked this book and the world it was set in. I’m not going to talk about this here because I still have to review it. But if you love retellings then this is definitely worth checking out.

I’ll hopefully be reading the companion novel, Barefoot on the Wind, soon. That is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast set in the same fairy tale Japan as Shadows on the Moon. I haven’t read the original story of that either though. 8

And the last book I read this week was The Secret Science of Magic. I’ve never read a book by Melissa Keil before but I enjoyed this. It’s not the kind of book I usually read but I think it’s good to change things up every now and then.

I’ll be reviewing this soon. It came out on the 1st here in New Zealand so I really need to get my review done soon. It’ll probably be up either Thursday or Friday NZ time. If I remember. Fingers crossed.

I received this last month from Walker Books Australia to review. I think this came out on the 1st too but I’m not too sure.

I can’t really remember what this is about except it follows a sixteen year old as she tries to figure out the conditions of love. Or something like that anyway.

I am so close to finishing Shadows on the Moon. This is a retelling of Cinderella set in fairy tale Japan.

I’ve really enjoyed this. Although I do keep forgetting it’s a retelling. I don’t want to get into this too much here because I’ll be doing a review on it soon.

But Suzume has finally lost her show! Not only do I keep forgetting that this is a retelling but I when I do remember it’s a retelling I mix up Cinderella and Aurora… I don’t know why I keep mixing it up.

The other book, Barefoot on the Wind, is also set in fairy tale Japan but it’s a companion novel. They aren’t a series so apparently you can read them out of order. But I didn’t want to even though it’s not a series. 8

I was sent a copy of The Secret Science of Magic from Hardie Grant Egmont Australia to review.

This is a contemporary and I don’t read a lot of contemporaries. But I really enjoyed this. It follows Sophia and Joshua in their last year of high school. Sophia is freaking out about her future while Joshua isn’t giving his a second though.

I’ll be reviewing this soon. Probably closer to the release date, which is April 1st in New Zealand. Not that far away but it’ll give me time to get my thoughts together. C7ZE_EmV0AAvLin

I’d actually finished this in my last WWW Wednesday but because I hadn’t picked up another book at the time I posted it I just put this under ‘currently reading.’

I really loved Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls and I think everyone should read this, even boys. I don’t think this should just be for girls.

I’ll also be talking more about this in my review so I don’t want to get into why I loved this here. But if it’s not on your TBR then you should think about putting it on there 🙂 10

I technically finish Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls this morning but I haven’t started anything yet so I’m just going to put this here.

This book has 100 short stories about young women and women in history and today. Even a five-year old girl. The writing is aimed for children but the stories were really interesting. There were a few women that I’d heard of, like Michelle Obama and Malala, but there were also a lot that I’d never heard of before reading this.

All the stories are illustrated and they are all amazing. I really loved this and I think that all girls, and even boys, should read this. I’ll be reviewing this soon. C7EaxmVU0AAWeZc

I finally finished Strange the Dreamer. This took me longer than I thought to read. Not because it was boring or anything but I just had so much going on and this book was over 500 pages I think.

I loved Strange the Dreamer. I didn’t like Laini’s previous Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy so I was really happy that I liked this.

I will hopefully have a review of Strange the Dreamer on the release day, which is next week. Fingers crossed I remember.

I received a copy of The Secret Science of Magic from Hardie Grant Egmont earlier this month. I’ve never read anything by Melissa Keil before so I’m looking forward to reading this. This is a contemporary, which I don’t read a lot of so it’ll be a nice change from all the fantasy.

Leave me a comment and let me know what you’ve read recently.
